D11 at Croxden Quarry

Working as part of a contract that began in February 2001, Stokey Plant has utilised both the Caterpillar D11R and D11T to continually deliver works on the Croxden Quarry. The purpose of the contract at Croxden Quarry is to provide a ripping and dozing service. At Croxden, well cemented sandstone conglomerate rock is ripped out of its natural state by a large tracked dozer, with a ripper implement. The ripped material is subsequently dozed towards a receiving hopper where loose sand and gravel are collected and transported to the receiving hopper over a field conveyor. Due to the nature of the contract and following extensive research, it was decided that purchasing a new D11R was the most appropriate dozer for the job.  

This project is unique and special to Stokey, as when the D11R was purchased in 2001, it was the first of its’ kind in the UK. The D11R was shipped over from Caterpillar’s manufacturing plant in Peoria, Illinois, in partnership with Finning. Throughout the contract, and still to this day, Stokey work closely with Finning to cover the maintenance and upkeep of the machinery. Following 30,000 hours of work, a decision was made that the D11R would be replaced with a brand new D11T. The 115 tonne Caterpillar Bulldozer is the largest dozer that CAT produces and is the largest machine using the elevated sprocket design. 

After over 20 years, Stokey Plant continues to deliver works at Croxden Quarry, an excellent example of Stokey’s commitment to working closely with our clients to consistently deliver our projects to the very highest standards.
