Stokey Plant was contracted to deliver earth moving works to Ballidon Quarry, an active limestone quarry that is operated by Tarmac, in Ashbourne, Derbyshire.
Works on the 18 month project began in May 2016, with the Stokey Plant team dozing any recoverable soils downslope from the former woodland areas. The team then began removing the overburden down to the limestone rockhead, followed by the removal of clay-contaminated limestone through blasting of the Woodbarn and West Quarry extraction areas. The two bulldozers were required to blade out materials and regrade the quarry tips.
Two 70 tonne excavators were used to remove further clay-contaminated limestone, and also remove temporary soil bund.
In total, the Stokey Plant machinery moved approximately 1.4 million cubic metres of earth on the project, with over 76,000 dumper loads.
The Ballidon Quarry project is an excellent example of Stokey Plant’s ability to deliver high quality works over a sustained period of time, whilst utilising a range of plant equipment to complete the job successfully and on schedule.
- 2 x 70 tonne Liebherr and Komatsu excavators
- 10 x 40/50 tonne Bell articulated dump trucks
- Caterpillar D8 and D6 bulldozer
